Maetang River CampMaetang River Camp (MTRC) is a campsite nestled in a lush tropical garden setting located on the bank of the Maetang river and surrounded by mountains. The camp is run as an activity base camp for outdoor excursions. From our camp, ActiveThailand.com operates trekking expeditions, white-water rafting, white water kayaking, bamboo rafting, and simple school gathering for outdoor experience or studies.
LocationLocated in Ban Muang Kut, tambon Kut Chang, Maetang district. This is the upper part of the Mae Taman valley. The campsite is located 5km upriver from the Maetaman elephant camp. It is also accessible through the Pai/Mae Hong son road turn-off. The camp is located 25 km from the Mae Malai market, and 62 km from Chiangmai. AccommodationBasic Bamboo dormitory longhouse fitted with mosquito nets and thick mattress. The longhouse can fit comfortably 12 persons. Tents: we provide various sizes tents to fit all size groups (100 people+) Tents are fitted with sleeping bags and camp mats. MealsMeals are cooked by our local staff. Usually we provide a buffet for groups. Most meals are succulent Thai food accompanied with rice, but “western” meals can be provided. All meals can be suit dietary requirements, with advance notice. Toilets and showersThere is a shower block with 10 shower (cold water only) and 4 western style toilets. Another toilet block located near the restaurant area, with 4 toilets. Our camp care taker is a young couple Ung and Anne, and their 4 year old son. They will make sure your stay is the most enjoyable Other information Electricity is running in the toilet/shower as well as in the dormitory houses. Satellite phone coverage by local provider DTAC. ACTIVITIESActivities provided from Maetang River Camp (subject to advance reservation and availability). Please send us an email inquiry regarding camp stay and activities. White water rafting descent. A great stretch of the Maetang river which ends up at our camp. We will drive 10 km up river to reach the river put in point, and let our Thai Adventure Rafting captains guide you safely through the swift rapids of the Maetang River. (Our river rafting trips are operated from mid-June to end of January, when the water levels are favourable, with the months of August and September boasting the highest levels.) Trekking to hill-tribe villages or simply scenic nature. For a softer option, we have 2 to 3 hours easy trails, suitable for families with smaller children. Realistically, being located in the heart of the Maetang Valley, which stretches all the way to the Chiangdao mountain range, the trekking possibilities are nearly endless! Elephant camps. Five kilometers down the road lies Maetaman village where you can fine Maetaman Elephant camp and Maetang Elephant camp. Both camps offers show, elephant riding and bamboo rafting down the Maetang river on the lower part (flat water) section. One kilometer away from Maetang River Camp (10 minutes walk) is the Elephant Nature Park, a popular elephant sanctuary, featured in many TV documentaries as well as international press. There, no show, no gimmicks. A day trip for serious animal lovers, where you care of the elephant, walk them to the jungle, clean them and become for one day or more, a mahout. We can make the reservation to the park, which is recommended as they limit their daily visitors. During the high season every day trip to the Elephant Nature Park are fully booked well in advance.
