Trek Overview
From Chiang Mai, experience fantastic mountain trek, discovering small hill tribes villages and witnessing authentic rural life. A rich cultural experience and an active 2 days trip. Doi Chiang Dao mountain range also offers stunning views of Thailand’s third highest peak in the background.

Tour Itinerary
- Day 1: Trekking the Chiangdao valley and overnight at eco-lodge
- 08h30am. Meet at your hotel in Chiang Mai and drive up north to Chiang Dao area. We make our first stop at an elephant camp nestled in pristine forest surroundings, to observe the elephants bathing and demonstrating their skills. Proceed to the Chiang Dao caves and Buddhist sanctuary where we will have lunch at local restaurant. Drive further to a village to begin our hike through the jungle and limestone peak, reaching a Palong village. Visit of the village and walk 10 minutes to the basic eco-lodge, for overnight, amidst authentic rural countryside.
[Meals: Lunch, Dinner] - Day 2: Elephant riding, bamboo rafting, and return to Chiangmai
- After breakfast we enjoy an elephant-back ride around (about 1 hour) to reach a small Karen settlement, where villagers own a few elephants. Continue our hike to meet another village where our vehicle is waiting for us. We’ll experience then a short bamboo raft cruise, down the Ping River. We then drive back to Chiang Mai, making a last stop to visit an orchid farm in the Mae Sa valley area, before getting back to Chiang Mai. We will drop off at your hotel in town or at the airport.

Additional trip information:
This trek is based at the Padeng Lodge, reached by vehicle. So you can take your main luggage with your. However, it makes more sense to leave the main luggage in Chiangmai, at our office or kept with your Chiangmai Hotel. The less luggage you have to carry around, the more you will enjoy yourself. Wear a good pair of running shoes or lightweight trekking shoes.
We do recommend to take a small backpack for the day items, which you can carry during the hike. It can contain items you might need during the day, as camera, water bottle, sun cream, and other personal items.
A second bag will be the main luggage, which can be kept in the vehicle until the evening, containing your overnight gear.
- 2 T-shirts (cotton), one short or long pants
- 2 pairs of socks. Sandals, flip-flops (for the evening)
- Towel (or sarong), toilet and personal effects
- Personal prescription drugs, contact lenses, glasses
- Sun-cream (waterproof), hat, sunglasses. Mosquito repellent
- 1 long sleeves sweater and pants, or jogging suits (for cold season)
- A small flashlight is always useful, and take your camera, you will be glad you did!
During the cold season (mostly months of December and January) bring a fleece and long pants, as temperatures can drop down at night. It can reach a 5 degree Celsius (40 degrees Fahrenheit) in the morning early hours.
Simple accommodation at the Padeng Lodge in harmony with nature!
Private rooms in Thai style house or hill-tribe hut, under mosquito net. Toilet facilities including western style toilets and hot shower are located outside the rooms, in separate building.
The Lodge offers a minimum of comfort amidst great nature! The Padeng Lodge is surrounded by five different hill tribe villages, linked by a great network of biking and hiking trails.
